Insert table in Word 2000

I can no longer click the table button in the standard tool bar and drag to create a new table in Word 2000. How do I restore that capability?

You are not in Outline view are you?
Click View to check. If the solution is here, let us know it was helpful so others can benefit from it as too

Have you tried:

Resetting your menu bar?
1. Right click on menu bar.
2. Customize
3. Toolbar Tab
4. Select Menu Bar
5. Click on Reset then close... can you see it now?

or

Rename/delete normal.dot
1. Close Word and Outlook (if you use it)
2. Search Windows Explorer for normal.dot
3. Either Rename them normal.old or delete it.
4. Reopen Word... can you see it now?
