Insane Keyboard Behavior

A few weeks ago the keyboard shortcuts stopped working on my keyboard (I have a G3 B/W with OS 8.6). I thought it was a keyboard problem and hooked up my old keyboard from a Power Computing system and it worked fine--for about a week. Then the same problem occurred with the keyboard shortcuts not working, then it progressed to the keyboard not typing, then strange things started happening to my computer. Every time I started it, I would get the message "Are you sure you want to rebuild the desktop?" and then the system started booting up with the extensions off and when you tried to shut down, it would shut down and then start itself up again. I decided in my troubleshooting efforts to hook up my old Power Tower computer (OS 8.1) and see if this devil keyboard would work on it or if there was some software problem. I immediately started getting the same "Are you sure you want to rebuild the desktop" and the other messages and behavior that were happening on the other computer. It's hard to imagine I had 2 faulty keyboards and even harder to imagine that the keyboard itself could pass along the same behavior to another computer. I don't know what to think at this point. Help!!

I have had ADB keyboards that caused issues for computers they were attached to like that, and macs that ate adb keyboards. I tried to remain child-like, all I acheived was childish.

If the problem follows the keyboard to another computer, it is definitely the keyboard. The fact that 2 of them are doing it is definitely strange, but the fact remains that a simple software quirk could not follow the keyboard around.
As Jim said, worse case scenario is that something on the logic board of the first Mac is fried and therefore frying keyboards plugged into it. ________
Remember, you're unique... just like everyone else.

I donated that mac to be a web server, so it does not use a keyboard in normal use I tried to remain child-like, all I acheived was childish.

Thanks for the input. I went out today and bought a new keyboard as my final test to try to get to the bottom of this. So far it works fine but then, the last one did too for a while. So I have my fingers crossed. I figure if I lose the keyboard shortcuts again, it HAS to be the computer.
