Input text format popup

I went to do my taxes online and I saw something I want to copy. When typing in an input text box (such as date, ssn, phone etc) a pop-up box would appear with the format style for that text box. This pop-up would appear just below the input field. I attempted to use the title in the tag (similar to <a href=

http://mypage.com

title=&quot;Text goes here&quot;>) but this did not work.

Any ideas or a place where I could find this done. Turbox tax was really good at hiding their source code.

It will be a positioned div - which they write data to using
innerHTML or something. This is DHTML - using javascript and CSS.
