All my phone numbers have input masks. They work fine; however, now I am doing a report based on a query and the input mask is not working.

Note: I did convert from Access 97 to Access 2000. The tables were created in Access 97. Could this be the problem?

Thanks for the reply! Actually I have a query in which the Design View is apparently unavailable. It is a Union query as opposed to a Select query. With my select queries I can access Design View and from there I can go into Field Properties and do an input mask; but where do I do this with a union query (if at all?) Thanks again.

I usually construct a union query as it's individual groupings in separate Select queries, and when I'm sure they are behaving, put them together. It seems the easiest to maintain (having encountered a 20+ field 6+ join union query recently). I'd be happy to know of an easier way.

Using Format(strX, "(@@@) @@@-@@@@") should work. Reports I don't think work with input masks, I believe the format property of the report would do the trick though.

of course, you could always put the format statement in the "Record Source" property of the phone# field of the report if you don't want to do it "free style" in the union query.

i use this method with the iif() function to do alternate formatting for things like social security# vs. entity ID# etc. something like

=IIf([Vendor],Format([PayeeID],"00 0000000"),Format([PayeeID],"000 00 0000"))

hope this helps
