Hello,
On the gateway T-1 PRI under Product Specific Configuration the settings for Input Gain (-6..14 db)* and Output Attenuation (-6..14 db)*

I have several users complaining of echo and that they have a hard time hearing the other party on the phone.

Currently I have the Input Gain set at 5 and Output Attenuation at 9.

If I need to increase the ear piece volume so the user can hear the other party which one should be adjusted? And which way? Negative or positive.

Also to remove the echo (which isn’t constant or very much) does anyone have a set of settings that worked for them?

ECAN modules fixed this problem. just a lil pricey...1700$
but trying to get a Meridian, Nortell IP, Centrex and Cisco to all play nice, I didn't have a choice.

Bumping up the gain and attenuation can introduce echo.
Try bumping up your echo cancellation under your voice port.
The command is echo-cancellation I believe. Set it all the way to 64ms and test.

Also turning up the volume on the phones all the way can introduce echo. Have your users turn the volume down if it all the way up.

For your users to hear you need to bump up your input gain (positive. For callers to hear it is the attenuation setting you need to tweak.

Generally I set my gains at -3 Output and 0 input. I am from old school telephony and back then all circuits were set as -6 receive and 0 transmit. Your settings are way high so chances are your users are hearing the other end, but the echo makes it hard to understand them. If I can't understand someone, I tend to talk louder which increases the echo, actually.
If you have constant echo, echo cancellation generally is not he answer, it is the Gain and Attenuation. It is a site by site guessing game. Make small changes and let it cook for a day or so to see the result. Unfortunately your users are 'tuned' into the echo so you'll have a tough time pleasing them now.
Remember that echo is caused by the other end, not your end. You are compensating for the 'tail' circuit unbalance.

I think I had this same issue.

I tried tried changing my input and output attenuation settings. Your gonna want to put them back at default.
Try deleting:

codec preference 1 g729br8 in your router.

you will see in your show run:

voice class codec 1
codec preference 1 g729br8
codec preference 2 g729r8
codec preference 3 g711ulaw

I have 18 remote sites that had voice quality issues and talking to cisco, they had me delete that codec.

Hope this helps. It has been 2 months since I had this issue and my fingers are still crossed.
