I'm new to Domino and I'm tring to install Domino Mail Server on Red Hat 7.2. At the end of the installation during the , it says this...

Installation Type: Domino Mail Server
Installing Inotes: Inotes is not supported on this platform: linux

What does this mean? What exactly is Inotes? The installation completes successfully, but I don't understand what it didn't install.

Thanks in advance,
Chris

iNotes is Domino's web based email interface that very closely resembles and functions like the full notes stand-alone client.

They haven't ported this to the linux server yet. I believe it's planned for R6 which is planned for release by end of 3rd quarter. Andrew G. Hargreave, III SANS GSEC

Thanks. Does this mean that you can't access Domino through a web browser if its installed on Linux? What about Solaris?

I want to make sure I know what your talking about here. Inotes Web Access is the web based access to the Domino server, just like Outlook Web Access is the web based access to Exchange? Is this correct?

If this is the case, like I was thinking originally, then this isn't going to work. I'll have to do it on Solaris, which I didn't want to do.

Thanks,
Chris

You can access Domino through a web Browser without the iNotes-functionality. The standard mail template within Lotus (as all other Lotus templates) can be accessed from a browser - the only difference between the standard mail template and the iNotes template is that the iNotes template offers more functionality and is more comfortable to use. So this 'traditional method' via the standard mail template should also work on a Linux platform.

How much different are the two templates? Would I be better off putting it on another platform that does support Inotes? Does Solaris support Inotes?

Thanks,
ChrisP

I don't know whether Solaris supports iNotes (we use Domino on AS/400). Regarding your other question: Depends on what kind of users you have. If they work only via browser and they also want to use calendar options etc. they might be better off with iNotes as it has much more features and is more user-friendly. If your users only do simple mail tasks or they only access their mail via browser from time to time as they generally work with a Standard Notes Client they would be fine with the standard webmail-template within the Notes mail.
