Checking a mounted filesystem does not produce dependable results.
** Phase 1 - Check Blocks and Sizes
** Phase 2 - Check Pathnames
** Phase 3 - Check Connectivity
** Phase 4 - Check Reference Counts
** Phase 5 - Check Inode Map
Bad Inode Map (NOT SALVAGED)
** Phase 6 - Check Block Map
Filesystem integrity is not guaranteed

what does it means? i tried to work on it in the3 maintenance mode and execute the same command..but everything looks okay.... it prompts ok.. and does not have any errors, how come when in normal mode.. i got this problem?
thanks

bonsky,

Well if it is o.k. in maintenance mode and mounts o.k. then the answer is in the above output, if you fsck a mounted filesystem the results of the fsck are not dependable i.e. may be incorrect, as they obviously are in this case.

As stated above - (emphasis added by me) - NEVER fsck a mounted filesystem (and perform changes). You are looking for problems when you do this.

Bill.
