Running ARCserve 7 on Netware 5.1.
I've been disabling Inoculan before backing up in order to get the most throughput possible on backups.

I'm starting to get nervous, though, that viruses might be getting through our servers (via email) while Inoculan is down each evening.

I thought I'd read something here about running Inoculan set to scan only incoming files while the backup is running. Can't seem to find anything, though...

Any ideas?

The setting is in the real time monitor, set to incoming only. Also, if you select fast-backup mode (again in the rtm) this prevents Inoculan scanning files being backed up.

All our servers scan writes not reads, but we do monthly full scans at the weekend.

You should only need to scan writes, scanning reads as well is a waste of processing power and time as your workstations should do it for you. -----------------------------------------------------

So, I finally got around to reconfiguring Inoculan to scan only "Incoming" files (this is InoculanIT 4.5 for Netware, the settings are only "Incoming", "Outgoing", "Incoming/Outgoing" or "Disabled").

Strangely enough, setting the config to "Incoming" only does not screen out any viruses coming in via email. Don't know how that makes any sense.

I've set it back to "Incoming/Outgoing". Don't know how badly this will affect throughput on the backup.

Any ideas?
