Ink cartridge refills

Does this printer use the 1645 cartridge? I have an 870 series printer which uses it and have had no luck with refills. Apparently HP use some special kind of ink that the refillers do not have access to, you can refill the cartridge and it will work but the print quality is extremrely poor, suitable only for draft type documents. Note that...
1. I have not tried for some time, this was the case about a year ago.
