Hello

I am using SQL 2000 on windows NT
The server has outlook 2000 installed onto which works
All logons/passwords revolve around windows NT sign ons
I am logging on and have set all this up using a logon with network wide administrative rights

Basically, Outlook works fine and sends fine
Via enterprise manager it did work fine but no longer does
If I attempt to add a mail task within a package it returns an error 'Initialise of MAPI failed'
If I attempt to look at the properties of the SQL server agent under the management folder (which suggests active - ie. play button) enterprise manager hangs and can only be freed by shutting EM down (CTRL - ALT - DEL)
If I attempt to test mail using SQL mail under support services again it hangs

Does anybody have any thoughts?

Thanks

Damian.

You must setup the account in outlook with the same account that sql server uses to sign on with. If you have sql server signing on with a local system account you will need to change that to an actual local or domain user.

Also on the MSDN Sql Server site there is a knowledgebase article about troubleshooting this type of problem. I don't have the reference but it was not hard to find with a search on SQLMail and Outlook.

I have used it serveral times to troubleshoot this type of problem and have always solved it eventually.

Also you may need to restart sql server and possibly the entire server before some of the changes will be recognized.
