OK......I give up. How the heck do you get this thing to accept a new password after you connect to it for the first time? It forces me to change the password so I select the password field, put in the new password I want (keeping the requirements in mind) and NOTHING. then select the administration tab where it asks me to confirm the new password then again NOTHING. I've tried disconnecting from it, rebooting, and the default keeps coming back and forces me to go through the same proces again. Of course, there's no instructions in the manuals for this as is typical from Nortel.

If this is a version 4, when you type in your new password, hit the TAB button on your keyboard. You will then be prompted to enter the new password again. Click on OK, it will alert you that you will lose connection to Element Manager.
Then re-connect and enter with your new password.

If this is a 4.0 BCM, I had this problem before I downloaded element manager directly from the BCM. The version of Element Manager I had said it downloaded the cartridge, but it still wouldn't let me get past the password change. I downloaded Element Manager from the 4.0 BCM and all was fine after that.

Thanks biv343

I realized that I was using the BCM50 element manger instead of my 400. I switched and everything worked fine.

It "should". There is also a new version of Business Element Manager which works (supposedly) with all BCM's, Business Secure Routers, Business Ethernet switches and Business Access Points.

I've had a little difficulty with it talking to a 4.0 400 Chassis, but none with the switches and routers so far.

My experience so far has been either Element Manager will work with either system PROVIDED that you do the initial startup with the correct one. I found out the hard way as you can tell from this thread.

Thank you everyone for the responses.
