Is it possible to issue an init 3 and not load the graphical interface, as is possible with other versions of Unix? I'm using OS X 10.4.

Thanks.

I believe that Mac OSX's init options are a bit "hacked down" if you will, and don't compare to those of true 'nix systems. If you want, you can boot your Mac while holding down the Command+S keys to go into Single User Mode.

Ah, thanks. I'll give that a try. I'm suprised at the lack of technical docs for Mac OS X, or, am I just not looking in the right place?

I believe the docs are part of the X Code development stuff. The X Code tools, etc. do come with the 10.4 DVD and are on a separate 10.3 disk, still part of the package for 10.3.

Hope this helps!
