Has anyone seen or has a copy of an Nortel document that describes the need to perform an INI every 3 to 6 months on a 81C or a document that states when a INI is necessary?

That would be interesting. Did you hear from someone that a document like that might exist?

I have never heard of a document like that nor have I heard that an INI is necessary on a routine basis.

This isn't a windows operating system.

You probably heard that from someone that does not really know the system all that well. Just like when they can't figure out what is going on they automatically say the database is corrupted.

In 20 years of working on Nortel switches I have only had to have ETAS into a switch one time to blow away a TN because it was corrupted. Customer changed an ACD set. Corruption is an easy out and customers believe them.

An INI (soft reset) is only documented as required under very specific configuration/maintenance/patch scenarios. I have never seen anything from Nortel which states that a periodic INI is required.

In the old system (SL1's) when you programmed new sets it used Protected Data (PDATA) and Unprotected Data (UDATA) as you deleted sets you would have the data was re-allocated to UDATA and PDATA and you would end up with some unassigned DATA. It would require an INI to take the unassigned data and re-allocate it back to either UDATA or PDATA. I have never seen a document with a requirement of an INI with the exception of some upgrades.

PB, that's right. A system with a lot of changes always did end up with "lost" memory....and an INI would recover it. I dunno if that still holds true, since there is usually more memory than required in today's systems
