Inherited a 2950 switch with no configuration

When I connect to the switch using hyperterm via the console, Boot Loader starts, the flash initializes, but I receive the message.

The system is unable to boot automatically because there are no bootable files to boot.

How do I recover from this? Does this mean IOS and the configuration file are missing. I relize this is a very basic question. I am new to Switches. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
