Hello,

I am using Win xp pro as usual and could like to use my infrared port to copy maps from a HP infrared scanner. This usually works on my machine with no problems but now I cannot get "services and apps" to co-operate and start the service. I am given a message that "Could not start service on local computer" (i'm on a stand-alone). Another thing is I believe you would normally see the Infrared icon in Control Panel. This is not happening.
Appreciate any help.

Thanks,
Gray

Not really my area but see if anything here helps. Make sure all the required Services (and their Dependencies) are not disabled. Services to do with Infrared, Wireless Zero Configuration and Workstation, come to mind.

If something was working correctly a few days ago but not now, remember you have System Restore to help you.

Thanks for your post. You were right on with your suggestion to go to help and support, which is what I did within Win XP. I uninstalled the driver for the IrDA device and then rebooted the machine. All came back as before with the 'wireless link' also in Control Panel as it should be. Problem solved.
