Hi all,

I am using Crystal Reports Server and infoview. There may be a very simple answer to this but I just cant see it.

I am scheduling reports to run in excel (not running as crystal and exporting) so they appear in the infoview window as an excel document. However when I do this I cannot sewem to save or export the document.

Does anyone know how to do this?

Thanks

How to allow Infoview users to open MS Office documents in the native application for modification?

Currently when users request a report from Infoview – and that report has been published so that the result document is either a Word or Excel file – the file is displayed in the Internet Explorer browser window using a MS Office viewer. This allows the user to view the document but does not allow the user to modify it in any way.

By making a change to the Windows default settings for the .DOC and .XLS file extensions – this will allow the file to be opened automatically in the native application, being either MS Word or MS Excel. The user can then modify the document.

To do this:

1. Right click on the Start button on the Task bar.
2. Choose Explore from the menu
3. Go to the Tools Menu Option in Windows Explorer
4. Choose the Folder Option from the menu
5. Click on the file types tab
6. Navigate your way through the file extension list and highlight either .doc or .xls file type
7. Then click the Advanced button located on the bottom of the dialogue box.
8. Un-tick the “Browse in Same Window” tick box
9. Click the OK button
10. Click the Close Button

MS Word or MS Excel will now open documents derived from the Internet Explorer window.

I hope this is what you were referring to...

Cheers

Thanks for this. I will make the changes on my machine.

However, rather than have to get every user that uses infoview to do this, I was wondering if there was a simple way of exporting an excel document that opens in the infoview window. I thought I had just missed it.

Any ideas?

Cheers

Simon
