Informix ODBC 3.34 or 3.80 driver and "synonyms"

Looking for any and all help with synonyms (instead of tables and views) and the Informix 3.34 or 3.80 ODBC drivers.

After setting up my drivers, services and data sources, I am able to see and query the tables and views in the databases I connect to, but can only see and not query these things called synonyms. I get an SQL syntax error.

I'm wondering if this could be due to how the synonym name is constructed or if it's a permission issue specific to synonyms.

My DBA has not been of any assistance other than to say: "huh....nothing has changed from our end..."
