Informix Dynamic Server 2000 Version 9.21.UC2 - Backups

Just installed Informix Dynamic Server 2000 Version 9.21.UC2
onto a SCO Unix 3.2v5.0.6.

Normally I am running this on Windows system and when I set up the backup I set the backup device to be a file on the Windows server.

I then use ontape to create the flat file and backup with "arcserve/ntbackup...."

On this Unix box I am unable to set the backup device to a file, whatever pathname I put in the ONCONFIG file - it keeps giving me errors.

Are there some default settings I have to make ?

Hi,

If you asked Informix they will say .... ONTAPE just like the name say. Backups to File will not realy suggested for ONTAPE. If you will do so, please use ONBAR that should work.

When you put a filename in the tapedev or ltapedev parameters in the onconfig, that file must ALREADY exist. In other words, running ontape will not create the file. Just do a touch on the filename before you put it into the onconfig. If your ontape entry says for example /backup/informix/production.data the production.data file must exist prior to the entry in coconfig.
