Informix drop index problem

I have used several different Database engines and am fairly good with SQL

Recently a new client using an informix database was having some issues. I felt it would be best to drop and recreate an index. When I attempt to do so I get an error about the inabilty to open system table

I do not unfortunatly have the erro in front of me but am wondering if there are any steps I need to take beyond normal to drop an index.

Could it be an authority problem? I know dropping an index that has the primary constraint does something weird (renames the index I think) but it does fail. Dropping the indexes are pretty straight forward on AIX:

drop index databasename:tableowner.tablename

Do you have "Select, Update....etc" permissions on the table with the indexes, and what permisions do you have on the systables table?
