I need to move my informix data files to a larger drive. Can I shutdown the database copy (dd, tar, cpio) the data files to a larger drive than rename the mount point so that the path to the data files remains the same?

Hi:

You don't devolve the info, but based on your file description, I'd say you're using Standard Engine, SE, and not online. Years ago, when I used SE, I could never get copy the SE files from one file system to another or one machine to another. I doubt if you'll be any more successful than I was.

If I were you, I'd use the Informix export utility, and export your database either to tape or disk if you have the room. I'd then move that to the new machine and perform a dbimprot.

Regards,

Ed
