Information Store Stopping

I needed to restart the information store
So I of course stopped it...It nows says stopping(has said so for a few hours) but has not stopped..ie. it is still running...
Any ideas on what to do a bit afraid to restart the Exchange Box

well, it's either that or killing the store.exe process via task manager...got backup?
