Whenever I do a backup with Microsoft Backup I recieve errors in my event viewer stating that the information store is corrupt. I do not appear to have a good clean backup. I only have 10 users and want to know if I can just export all mailboxes locally to a .pst file on the client machines. Then delete the information store, add a new one then just import the client .pst files. The error i recieve in event viewer is from the Source ESE, Event ID 474. What is the easiest way to correct the issue?

Thanks

Maybe it would be easiest to let the 10 users export to pst, otherwise, take the server offline, stop all antivirus, spam and security filter services. restart the information store, try backup.

maybe install a demo pro backup thingy and try backing up with that. i think i allways had a non-konsistent time backing up exchange with windows backup, but with veritas and other pro backup solutions, it works like a dream.

I should mention the nice tool:
power controls from
It opens offline edb files, like a zip file and lets you export brickwise to pst.
i even had great succes with a corrupt edb, about 80% succesrate.

What are the exact event messages you are getting in event viewer? If your IS was corrupt i'm sure you would be having much more problems than this. Also what backup software are you using? Does this software come with the Exchange Agent?

The error message I receive is the following.

Information Store (2120) The database page read from the file "C:\Program Files\Exchsrvr\mdbdata\priv1.edb" at offset 423587840 (0x00000000193f7000) for 4096 (0x00001000) bytes failed verification due to a page checksum mismatch. The expected checksum was 3512902537 (0xd162a389) and the actual checksum was 3512902470 (0xd162a346). The read operation will fail with error -1018 (0xfffffc06). If this condition persists then please restore the database from a previous backup.

I am receiving this error in event viewer even if i am not doing a backup. When I do backups I just use Microsoft Backup and I receive many more errors like this.

I had to delete the information store and restore from .pst backups. This all seemed to go fine except....The the users contacts. The contacts are all there when you click on the contacts button but if you click the To: box and then pick the contacts it says the following. The address list could not be displayed. the contacts folder associated with this address list could not be opened; it may have been moved or deleted, or you do not have permissions. For information on how to remove this folder from the Outlook Address Book, see Microsoft Outlook Help.
