Can anyone provide me some information on Micros 3700 security please? We believe we have employees manipulating sales and stealing.

1. Is there a log that shows what anyone does when they are logged into POS Configurator? If so can you tell me where and what its called?
2. Is there a way for a manager to manipulate sales in micros?
3. Is there any reason a store manager would need access to POS Configurator other than setting up employees?
4. Is there a way to change the standard access password for the sql database so just anybody cannot break security?

Thanks so much.

1) To my knowledge no there is not a true audit trail feature for POSCONFIG. Always thought it would be a good idea. The logs will show you sign ins.
2) Yes. Just like any system. But there should typically be a paper trail (reports or journal) Items being voided after checks closed, items being transferred from table to table, discounts after bills closed, etc, etc. Someone has to review the reports / journals to make sure none of this is happening. A few reports emailed to you each day will usually cover this off.
3) Yes. Change / add menu items. Update touchscreens. You can limit what your managers can see/do in POSCONFIG and the modules of RES
4) That's a bit drastic. If someone really wants to get into the database they will (there are number of threads on here how to do it) You can change each employees password as needed to access the RES modules. They should each have their own. If you think you need to change the database password then those employees should probably not be working for you...

Hey thanks for such a quick response on this I can't thank you enough.

#1 - ok
#2 - other than the journal what report would I pull or ask to have pulled?
#3 - Our store managers do not do any menu maintenace- I do it all from a server and rollout to the stores. Can you tell me besides that and setting up employees if there is any reason for them to have access.
#4 - Can you tell me where to change their access to "RES Modules"

Do you know of any documentation or course I might take to help me in these areas. I have been doing Micros programming for a few years but basic things, adding menu items, combo meals. touchscreens, taxes etc. Things like that but know we have a need to dig deeper into setting up triggers on the coupons - I can't get that to work, or some security items like above.

Also do you have a list of what logs will tell me what?

Again thanks so much for your help.

You can change the database credentials in the Micros Database Manager.

It's good practice to change the passwords for the DBA, micros and custom users from the defaults.

If you change these passwords make sure only the correct people know them. Eg. Your support department.

All documentation is here
