Has anybody done an evaluation or analysis on the two products? Just curious to hear the pros/cons of the two products, when compared side by side.

Informatica normally competes with DataStage, not DataStage TX.

Question: What do you want to do? Better question: What problem do you need to solve?

A good middleware tool for EDI/X12/XML with reliabile FTP capabilities.

Basically, instead of moving to DSTX 8.1 from 6.7.1, the "consultants" are suggesting Informatica. Hidden agendas are ubiquitous on both sides, unfortunately, and I need amunition to shoot their idea down for my agenda (job security.) :)

Well, 8.0.1 is being released, 8.1 will take a while.
If the system is well designed and tunes properly and is given enough hardware to run one DS TX is fast, reliable and has great support groups.
If you don't tune, have poor design and have 1 450 mhz CPU and 400 watches, 512 meg of RAM and 300 meg data files, going through a multi-threaded map, it doesn't work so good.

There are still companies running 1.4.2 (Sp9 or 10) with no issues and they don't want to upgrade, but have to since the OS and every 3rd party connection they are using is obsolete.
