Hi,

I am new to informatica and using version 7.1.2. I added a source and also a target file. and manually mapped the fields. I have one additional field in the target table. I would like to assign a default value for that fields. Can anybody help me how to do that?

thanks

The easiest approach is to set the Target column up in the Database (MSSQL?) with a default.

Next easiest - set up an expression/transformation. Map any source column to it as an input port, then add another port as an output only with the default value. Then map the output port to the target column.

hi rasanders,

thank you for your reply. since its a varchar2 field, i think default value is null. we are using oralce 9i.

can you please explain the second step to set up an expression/transformation in two or three simple steps.

and also how to run the mappings(or create session) after this is done.

thank you in advance.

Crystaluser,

If you do not know how to create an additional output port in an expression transformation I would suggest basic INFA training.
Even so, the very elaborate help that INFA offers within the Designer module covers ALL the basics. Did you try it ?
