Hi List,

We've got an E-250 with 2x400 SparcII cpu's & 2Gb of ram.
We need to run oracle8 for about 15 users while the actual database should not exceed 2-5 Gb.
Currently at 2.5Gb but 6 month from here should be at 4.5Gb

What are the optimum settings for the SGA parameters in the system file ?

And more, what does actually full duplex vs half duplex mean in terms of server vs client ?

Thanks for any info list,

Cheers.

I have been very happy with a SGA that uses 1/4 of RAM, (I put my DB files in a filesystem, so the unix buffer cache uses about half of RAM)

Full Duplex is the nicer network setting, if you are using switches, if you are still using hubs then half duplex is best. I tried to remain child-like, all I acheived was childish.

'lo
Did some test over the weekend and turned kinda pale, system was dead-slow while clients opened sessions at the same time, turned out to be the oracle parameters where set to 128Mb ram conditions and such...all went back to speedy response times when setting saner parameters.
Oracle parameters default apparently to conventional ranges.
got it using 1/6 now

How does L2 upgrades improve overall sysload?

you think running samba on the same system for those 15 clients would be pushing ?

thanks for the light shed!
