We use a ton of duotone images, which can only be saved as EPS or PSD files. When I preflight any of these duotone EPS files or look in the info palette for them (from within InDesign), the fields for actual and effective ppi are left blank. Is there some other way for me to find the effective resolution of these dutones? Our art department likes to have flexility in how they crop and/or size images, so the effective ppi could be very different from the actual ppi. We'd rather not have to save them as PSDs.

...a bit annoying this one, i certainly cannot find a way for indesign to recognise the resolution of placed duotone images. I really think adobe have missed this one out for whatever reason...

...in acrobat pro's preflight it will tell you the effective resolution or alternatively with the use of enfocus pitstop...

...from within indesign it seems a big no as far as i can see, without as you say going to psd from photoshop...
