When I reboot the server (SLES10 2TB DAS arrray LVM2) and view (ESC during boot) the boot messages I get the following message whilst it is checking the LVM2 array

''Blogd: log buffer exeeded''

Now the array has about 550GB of data on it but there are hundreds of thousands of very small files in many of the directories (typically 2KB - 4KB) - could this be causing the log to fill up?

I'm not sure that's coming from your array at all, but the kernel "logd". I'm not sure where the B comes from... but basically the kernel has a certain predefined log buffer for boot messages (displayed after boot using the dmesg command) which can fill up if there are too many messages displayed during the boot process, before it hands off the kernel log buffer contents to syslogd. Perhaps the LVM2 array check is generating so much output that it causes this buffer to fill?

In any case, the error is not serious if my guess is correct.

Annihilannic.

I'm guessing it is boot log daemon (blogd)?

Anyways, I have rebooted the server since and it seems fine now - thanks for the info on the process - always nice to know what is going on. Just gotta get the 'lock screen' working which nobody seems to have a fix for!
