I'm running Exchange 2003 on Server 2003 and my inetinfo.exe process constantly sits at between 50% and 100%. We've got journalling enabled for our email archive solution and we also use exclaimer to put on company disclaimers, could either of these be the cause of the high utilization?

I can't really stop either to find out because all emails need the disclaimer and we need the archving for compliance reasons

Hi dangerousdom,

I am new to exchange and learning - have you done the following;

How is exchange started; check your cmd line switches as if you start it with the wrong one it can have a performance overhead; /3gb switch eg.

When did this issue occur and for low long?

Has it been like this since day one?

Is there a pattern(dates and times)?

What do your event logs say?

How many exchange servers to you have and are they presenting the same symptoms?

How much memory does this server have and how many processors does it have?

Can you run performance monitor and if you run MS Ops Manager 2007 with exchange management pack; does that tell you anything.

Hope this points you on to the right road

Thanks

Lots of things run in inetinfo's memory space; the SMTP service for one. This means SMTP transport event sinks like envelope journaling or disclaimers...

If you want to get more specific than that, set up the crash cart and force a user mode dump of inetinfo. Send the results to PSS for analysis.
