Hello:

I am using Citrix to have 100+ users access a Published Application. I want each user to be able to enter the application's Options, and set their own options (file locations, default font, etc.).

Is this possible?
If so, how do I go about implementing this?

Thank you in advance!

Need more info, as it depends entirely on the application and how you choose to publish it.

Assuming that this is something like Word or Excel that doesn't require a login etc... then as long as each user has an explicit logon to the published app (ie it's their Win2K/NT username not a generic name) then the following apply:

1. If the application stores options in the registry under HKCU (like Word or Excel) then the options will only apply to that user (the defaults will come from HKLM or HKU\.default)

2. If the app stores options in .ini files, then as long as you set the ini mapping up properly on install ("change user /install" when software installed) the options files (*.ini) will save to their Home drive under \windows.

If you use an anonymous login to a published app, there is no way for the system to differentiate users from each other, so there is no way to remember user's settings.

If you are using a custom app, or something that requires a login AFTER you have access to the Terminal Server (like a TELNET session etc), the custom app may have it's own way of remembering settings for users.

Can you give more info so I can be of more assistance??
Cheers,
Sam

Hello Sam:

Thank you for your reply. I wish I could give you more information, but actually I am the IT Analyst of a department being affected by a new Citrix implementation.

Our IT department keeps telling me that there is no way that a Citrix published application can have individualized settings. I translated this into "We do not know how, so we will say it cannot be done."

Your reply will actually be very helpful. Your post, correlated with information I have gathered from the Citrix web site will give me the leverage to get our IT department to accomplish this.

Of course, this will make the 120+ users in my department much happier with their software.

Thank you for your post.
Jason
