Hi,<br><br>I'm trying to resurect an Indigo2 machine that has bee abandoned for 18 months. It's the only SGI machine we have and I'm having troble getting fx to work.<br><br>I have the IRIX 6.5.1 installation cd's, a cd rom drive and a clean scsi hdd.<br><br>I can get sash running but the fx command (fx.ARCS for this machine (IP22)) just won't run. I get an 'oserror' and 'unexpected sysmbol encountered'. I can't work out what is wrong but then this is my first experience with IRIX.<br><br>How can I partion the hdd? Is something else broke?<br><br>Cheers in advance...<br><br>Paul
 
If you are installing to a clean drive, boot up the system and hit the esc key when you see &quot;starting up the system&quot; you will then see another menu click &quot;Install system software&quot;, click &quot;local CDROM', click continue. NOTE: If you are installing to a clean drive answer &quot;yes&quot; when it asks make a new file system?

Help! I recently picked up an O2 at a surplus sale. This is an R5000. It boots , but I have neither a root passwd nor OS cd. Its' running 6.5.

If I do the 'esc' thing, there is a command screen, which is operating in single user mode, but it's a small world, and I can't seem to do anything about the root passwd.

How can I get through this to reset or blank out the current root passwd?
