Hi,

I'm trying to resurect an Indigo2 machine that has bee abandoned for 18 months. It's the only SGI machine we have and I'm having troble getting fx to work.

I have the IRIX 6.5.1 installation cd's, a cd rom drive and a clean scsi hdd.

I can get sash running but the fx command (fx.ARCS for this machine (IP22)) just won't run. I get an 'oserror' and 'unexpected sysmbol encountered'. I can't work out what is wrong but then this is my first experience with IRIX.

How can I partion the hdd? Is something else broke?

Cheers in advance...

Paul

If you are installing to a clean drive, boot up the system and hit the esc key when you see "starting up the system" you will then see another menu click "Install system software", click "local CDROM', click continue. NOTE: If you are installing to a clean drive answer "yes" when it asks make a new file system?

Good Luck

Help! I recently picked up an O2 at a surplus sale. This is an R5000. It boots , but I have neither a root passwd nor OS cd. Its' running 6.5.

If I do the 'esc' thing, there is a command screen, which is operating in single user mode, but it's a small world, and I can't seem to do anything about the root passwd.

How can I get through this to reset or blank out the current root passwd?
Thanx!
