Indexing PDF documents

I realise this may not be the ideal forum for this but here goes.
We use Indexing Services to index Word and PDF documents. To handle the PDFs we have installed Adobe's filter and all works fine.
The problem comes where PDFs are scanned in using OCR software rather than converted from Word or created afresh. When scanned the filter seems unable to index the documents.
As always any help/suggestions much appreciated.

There are utiltites around which will convert from bitmaps to pdf or rtf. Try running it through one of those first. Note that the result is not editable because it puts everything in text boxes.
