Indexing FM fields in Crystal Reports

I am accessing two FM databases via Crystal Reports using an ODBC connection. Everything seems to be fine except that Crystal Reports will not give me the option of creating an index on any of the FM Pro fields. (I can see the "Add Index" option in several places but it is greyed out.) The fields are indexed in FileMaker itself.
