I have SQL 7 sp2 and IIS 4 working just fine on an NT sp5 box, Tried to install Index Server on my server and get the
error: "Setup cannot modify the metabase"
then next came the error "Setup of "Index
Server System Files" failed.
The specific error code is 0x35ae644.Setup
will continue but the component may not
function properly."
Then after re-applying the service pack and
trying to open the Index Server Manager, I
get something like "Cannot initialize the
snap-in". But the CI service starts, and
indexing is happening.
I then uninstalled and began re-install again
and stopped all services when doing the
install, first deleting the "Query.dll,
infohost.dll, and idq.dll" files, as
suggested in Q256278, then re-applied the
service pack, but the error messages on install
were the same.
I cleaned out duplicate entries in the mime type
strings on IIS.
I've researched everywhere on TechNet, but nothing
has corrected the bug on the install.
Anyone have a clue what might fix the install.
