Hey,

There is a strange onexpected error. In a new developed, application if my users copy sometimes a large amount of data from a Form memo field and past it in a new record in the same memo field he gives the error, "index field, primary key, cannot past, remove first primary key from the memo field". First in my properties I set not a index or primary field for the memo field. Is this a buy, or can my database be infected by a virus, or can there be another reason ?

What happens if you just type into the new memo field instead of pasting?

Because its memo field, you can expect that it is a large amount of data. I can do a test on typing, but it is not a solution to this. The user must be able to copy past large contents that is identically. The copy paste is not a problem if you change one small thing in the texte because then the content is not considered as a duplication, but in this case its must be somethimes a duplication.

I ask because it seems unlikely that the memo field is the primary index. The error you quote indicates that the problem may be in a different area. It seemed simpler to request further information to test this point than to type out a detailed explaination as to why I requested the information.

ok, Is a primary index set by access itself. Set access by default a primary key, its possible, I did not know that. If yes how can I tell him to take it of or chose another field for his primary index ? In the properties of the memo field everything seems to be normal.

A different area, that could be, in many cases this is true, but where do I need to look. It is a simple qeury on a few tables.

Have you looked at the all the tables in design view?

So, is the memo field indexed? If not, the problem is probably that a table used in the form has a unique index and the record is being saved after the memo is pasted without the indexed field being filled in. If you had answered my initial question, this could have been confirmed.

The very first thing I did before I sended the post was looking if there is a index in the memo field, I verified also the other field and the if the primary key itself is an index then is this the only indexed field.

What is your answer to fix this ?

What is your last sentence saying? Is the Memo field INDEXED or not? Sorry, your response isn't clear.

I found it, sorry for the confusion. I never had this before. There was an invisible index on my memo field, in the properties of my memo field there was nothing like "indexed - dublicates no" and I did not set something like an index on this field.

I simply deleted the complete field memo en redefine it.
