I don't know where to turn... can someone tell me if InDesign will create an index from topics provided, or does one have to manually go through the book, page by page to locate page numbers. I would really appreciate an answer as I am up against a deadline and need to start searching page by page right away if that's what I need to do.

Firstly, If you keep posting no one will answer.
If you post hasn't been answered then we don't know.
We don't work for Adobe, this is a User to User forum.
Anyway, I just created one and it worked ok, it put the page numbers in.
I would check you Index option more carefully.
