I had a problem with placing a text from Word to InDesign. The problem is text which is italic in Word, but when I place it in InDesign it goes to normal. Can anybody help me with that issue, please? There are so many words in italic(must be), so it will take me ages to change every word manually. Thanks in advance.

There's a few ways you can sort of circumvent or aid InDesign from taking them all out.

1) Clean up your word document. Save it as a *.rtf - that is much cleaner and works a lot better for me usually.

2) In Word: check Tools/templates Add ins/Organizer and check whether you have a lot of extra junk styles that may throw off ID.

2) When you place the text. Shift+click on "Open", that'll give you the import options before you actually place the text. Go to customize stype imports and make sure your "emphasis" or "italics" style is not being replaced by your regular body text or something.

Hope that helps, let me know if you need clarification or when it still doesn't work

I experienced the identical problem with every scientific name in a book utilizing hundreds of italicized phrases in WORD. The only solution that I found was highlighting every non-italicized word in my copy and paste paragraphs and selecting italics in the upper left corner of InDesign. Furthermore, all of my Ariel fonts reverted to Times Roman with InDesign when I set text frame borders to "0". There is a solution: Buy one of those magnesium survivor lighters, ignite dry tinder, lay sticks on the tinder, place InDesign on top until well-done.
