If an Indesign file is to be emailed from a PC to a Mac ... what is the routine? I can't open an ID file sent to me by a PC client.

There is no routine. As long as the two versions of ID are the same, you can bounce documents back and forth. If only worried about going one way: the InDesign program must be the same version or newer to open a document.

Mac OSX can read all fonts (Windows too) but Windows can only read Windows fonts. OpenType fonts allow either platform to use the same font.

Why is everyone in this forum responding to me as picklefish?

We have had some files scramble when emailed - make sure they are stuffed or zipped before being emailed & then as long as the program you are using is the same or a higher version, it will open fine. You might have to open InDesign & then go find the file to open it instead of just double clicking.
