I got this message when trying to open an indesign document: "cannot open document" "May not have permission".We have a small network setup, 3 Mac G5's and 2 Mac G4's. Our main G5 has a 2 external drives where we archive documents. When I tried to open an indesign document that was saved in the external drive from a computer other than the main G5 I get this error message. I can copy the file to the desktop and open it but can't open the original in the external drive to modify it. Any ideas? Thanks!

...have you tried creating a test user account on the mac that won't open the indesign files?

...if not, try that...

...if that works, then there is probably a preferences issue on that computers user account, try deleting the indesign preferences and relaunch indesign...

You can also go to the server and do a find. Set one of the parameters to Visibity: Invisible and enter the first part of the name of the file. You may then see the hidden .ldk file for the ID document. Move that to the trash.

Sometimes the server doesn't immediately quit the locked file, so it thinks that the file is still open (giving you the error message.)

I'm not saying this will work for your problem, but it has worked on our system many times.
