InDesign CS v3- Error while opening InDesign files

I have several Indesign CS books for self studying. Some of these books come with tutorial CD's which contains Authors' InDesign files, tips etc.

But, when I want to open any of these InDesign files I get the following error:

"Cannot open "myfile.indd". Please upgrade your plugins to their latest versions or upgrade to the latest version ofg Adobe InDesign."

I am not sure what am I doing wrong here? I use InDesign version 3. I would appreciate your help please..

There was a series of books that had defective CDs - - although I forget which it was. Check the publisher's web site for errata. Otherwise, make sure that your InDesign is patched.

Thank you for your response. I have checked the author's web site and they do not seem to have any errata such. Besides, it seems to me a bit unlikely that the CDs are damaged etc because the same CD works perfectly on my friend's machine. So it should be something else that I have to look into, I think..
