InDesign CS-Can not use any colour except black and white

Hello

I use Adobe Indesign CS on Windows environment but If I want to color a text or want to put a background color in a frame I can not do it because it seems that the color is set up to only black and white on the color tool box. As a result I can only use black and white. It is same if I use the eye tool to pick a color because the only colors available are black and white (and the shades of grays off course). It is rather frustrating because it is as if I am on grayscale mode (as it would be the case in Adobe Photoshop). I would appreciate any help please..

Have you explored the flyout menu on the color palette? Check all the buttons available on the palette.

Thanks for this, I have already solved the issue. The problem is that I was using color palette and seeing only black and white set as a color on the palette. The reality is that this palette (I later found out) can be set by opening another palette called swatches palette. When I set a new color for the background and foreground color on the swatches palette it actually worked and resetted the color palette with the new colors rather than just black and white. I hope this helps.

The flyout menu on the color palette allows you to choose between CMYK, grayscale, RGB, etc. There is no need to open the swatch palette unless you like the extra trouble.
