I will be submitting artwork to a tabloid newspaper, it will be PDF/X-1a created from Indesign CS file.

Questions:
1) do I need to be concerned about screen and density requirements? or the PDF/X-1a takes care of it?

2) if I need to set up 120 line screen and density 260% (4c) how do I go about doing it in Indesign?

It's urgent, please answer soon, I'll appreciate–thanks

Has the newspaper specified PDF/X-1a in their spec sheet? If so, I wouldn't be concerned about line screens. But the density thing could well be a consideration. Newsprint is very absorbent (high dot gain), so any heavy ink coverage is just going to bleed everywhere. I would be checking with the newspaper for what the max ink density should be, otherwise you may be disappointed in the printed result. Not that 260% is to bad, but...

My most common output goes to newspapers. All I ever have to do is make a pdf to their specs - normally just 200 dpi downsampling & grayscale. Haven't ever had a problem.

The stuff you're talking about is generally handled by the printers. They know their presses and they are just going to plug your ad ito their standard workflow. I wouldn't worry about it. In fact, unless they specify any X, I wouldn't bother with that.
