Well, how do they say: "The only constant thing is change..."

I have a couple of databases on our LAN, all the users has (had) a copy of MS Access on their various pc's. Our old IT company is new something of the past and so is everyone's office licences. Only a lucky few will have this exclusive privilage. Well I am sure you can see my predicament, all my hard work and data is now at risk. I have to come up with a quick solution as to ensure continuity. I only have knowledge of MS Access as it comes with the MS Office package. I saw a lot of discussion around a client-server type of environment. Is it really neccasary to have a license for every user or is there an "independant frontend" in the form of an equavalent gui with the forms, menu's etc? Could anyone please give me some pointers what to do.
I also saw some other databases like dbase and MySQL, are there any opensource alternatives?

You have to buy Access Developer which will let you create a run time db which can be used on a computer without Access being installed

Hope this helps
