Hi All,

when do we use incremental cube build vs Full Process option.I was reading that incremental just processes any new data thats coming but will not update existing data. what does this mean? Say, I have changed the price of an item that already exists in the cube, do I need to do a full build to get this update into the cube.

We do a full build of a cube over the weekend, whereas we have nightly incremental jobs running weekdays. I wanted to understand why we would need a full build.

I am newbie, so please let me know if my question isnt meaningful..

Thanks,

The answer is quite simple. A full build will replace (overwrite) what you currently have. An incremental build will append the new data to what you already have. As far as your question about price, if the price is in a dimension, you need to rebuild the dimension. If you need to keep the old price, then you need a Type 2, slowly changing dimension. If the price is in the fact, it will be taken incrementally. Only the fact is updated incrementally.
