Incremental vs. Differential

Currently our backup schedule is incrementals six days a week and a full backup on the seventh. I want to change this to a differential (L1) six days a week and a full on the seventh.

I understand that my differentials will be longer and larger but I like the protection of the differentials.

Any thoughts?

Ok - just select the SAME level for the six days. Any level will do it.

Is a level 1 backup equivalent to a differential backup?

ALL levels will be able to perform differential backups ... if you use them correctly.

That's what we're doing here; You will use more tapes.

new2me, I assume you are running L1's six days a week then a full on the seventh day.

In short - yes. We setup 2 groups, 1 for the date doing the full and skip the rest and the other group use L1 and skip on the dates we're running fulls.
