I have a Win 2K Pro machine with a linksys LNE100TX NIC. For testing reasons, I had to uninstall and remove the NIC from the system a couple of times. The method I used to do this was to "uninstall" the NIC from the Device Manager, and then remove the .INF & .PNF files from the WINNT/INF directory (I wanted the OS to ask me for the driver each time I reinstalled). The subsequent reinstalls of the NIC went fine except for the fact that the Device Manager now lists the device with a number that keeps going up for each time I do this. IE: Linksys LNE100TX #3. Is there something in the uninstall procedure I am forgetting to do that is causing this and/or is there a way to rectify this in the registry? I thought I read a post on this a while ago but can't seem to find it.

Thanks
