Incremental Dumps Using Ufsdump command

I am trying to use ufsdump to make an incremental dump of part of a filesystem. Every night I dump the directory '/oracle/versionone' to tape

ufsdump -0cfu gefin1ge0:/dev/rmt/0n /oracle/versionone

As I am only dumping part of the '/oracle' filesystem , ufsdump does not update '/etc/dumpdates'. So when I try a level 5 dump, ufsdump basically just does a full dump again , as the date shown against /oracle in dumpdates is several months ago.

I am trying to use the N option as recommended in the man pages for ufsdump but without success.

eg ufsdump -0cfuN gefin1ge0:/dev/rmt/0n /dev/md/rdsk/d11 /oracle/versionone

Has anyone ever used ufsdump for incremental backups ?

yes, but I must admit: I never checked whether level 1 is less than level 0, exactly what you expect. And I usually used just a "ufsdump 0f dev/rmt/0cbn diskdevice" instead of all your args and mountpoint. But there must have been a difference: 7 fulldumps did not fit one DLT IV Tape but 1 full and 6 incs do.

Best Regards, Franz
