I have a Motorolla Starmax 4000 604e. I wanted to know where and what i should buy to give me a boost in memory and speed. Currently it has a 166mhz processor and 3 gigs of memory.
Also i have an additional harddrive but i can't seem to make it work. I was trying to make one of my harddrives a slave, but when I hook the older one up, my computer doesn't read it. Would that have anything to do with the older OS being 8.0 and the newer OS being 8.5?

you have 3 GIG of RAM or 3 GIG on the Hard Drive?

Either way..... memorytogo.com has some super nice prices on RAM........A 512meg chip for $115.00..........

for speed go with more ram. Os 8.0 or 8.5 (up it to 8.6 its free if you have 8.5)will not stop you from see the drive is it IDE or SCSI you said save so it must be IDE right. which hard drive is it fujstui hard drives do are not supported and most of the time don't work with a mac rom so put up the specs on the drive So long and thanks for all the fish.

If your Mac has a processor that can be replaced, try xlr8. I fitted an xlr8 G3/500 upgrade to my 7300/166 (which has a 604e processor) and it makes a *very* big speed difference!
Lots more RAM also helps.

RAM is really cheap at the moment. But adding RAM, processor and hard disk to a slow motherboard is a false economy. Sell the Mac base unit and you are probably half way to a new G4...
