I do not have Online JFS on this server. I want to add some space to /opt. I know I will need to unmount the filesystem.

I do not see any process or users when running the fuser command.

With /, I know I need to run in single user mode and use contiguous space....

Can I unmount /opt with users on the system? Is there any restrictions I need to be aware of?

Top of my head, don't think you can do this, with the server up (persoanally never tried).

What I would do, is make a ignite make_recovery_tape
Boot of the tape (use interactive switch, or interuppt boot)
Resize filesystems
Then continue restore from tape.

Basically, you use the make_recovery_tape to restore the system, but relayout your filesystems. This way youend with nothing fragmented, nice and neat and safe.

Have done this often, works a treat.

and if you want to play...

boot to single user
umount /opt
extendfs /dev/vg00/lvol5
mount /opt
init 3 or 4 whatever your runlevel is.

ps: double check the steps and cmds, don't have to do this for awhile since the online jfs.
