By default, Solaris only checks the first 8 characters of a password field. I was wondering how I could configure it such that it will check more than just the first 8. Also, after I've changed the configuration, what do I have to do for the change to take effect? Thanks!

Although you can change the minimum length of a password in /etc/defaults/passwd the system will as you say only check the first eight. I don't think you can change this.
